Sports were important to the residents of Valois which is located in the heart of Pointe-Claire. The Valois Citizen’s Club Association created in 1919 encouraged many major improvements to the area of Valois including sidewalks, replacing the old existing wooding planks that were in existence prior to 1922, street lighting, railroad crossings, children’s playgrounds, sports teams, and much more to provide recreation and safety to its citizens. As the population of the area grew, so did the attraction of sports and the VCCA created the Valois Amateur Athletic Association in 1921 along with promoting hockey, baseball, swimming and skating, tennis courts were built in October 1921 at the corner of Queen’s Road and Summerhill.
A year later, in 1922, the VCCA built a small building beside the tennis courts that was used as a clubhouse and shared space with the library. The Valois UnitedChurch also used this facility for one year to hold their services. Since its creation, The Valois Tennis Club has been proudly serving the community for over 100 years. Members of the Valois Tennis Club have access to 5 clay tennis courts (har-Tru), all courts are lit in the evening and are ranked among the best tennis courts
In Montreal each year. According to an article in the OTA magazine by then-President Scott Fraser, “there are a lot of beautiful tennis clubs across Canada, but I must say that what sets Valois apart from many others is “heart” The volunteers that work tirelessly to maintain the courts and clubhouse and bring cheer to all those who play there are simply top-notch. Everyone at Valois makes you feel special, and everyone there genuinely loves what they do to keep the club humble and inviting”.
The Valois Tennis Club offers a tennis league, club professionals available for private or group lessons, as well as an immensely popular junior development program for young people under the age of 16. The Valois Tennis Club is a private, members-only club found at 99 Queen’s Avenue at the corner of Summerhill Avenue in the Baie Valois Bay district of Pointe-Claire.
