Located on 99 Queen’s Avenue, between King and Summerhill in the peaceful neighborhood in Pointe-Claire called Valois, sits a beautifully secluded tennis club. Its existence dates to 1922, when England’s King George V opened center court at Wimbledon; when the Lincoln Memorial was introduced; when the BBC and Reader’s Digest became part of our lives; and at a time when the first successful insulin treatment saved lives.
Valois Tennis Club graced us with its humble presence and became a fabric of our sporting lives with its five well-kept tennis courts, its welcoming clubhouse, its vibrant flowers, and its friendly members. It has offered our community an escape from the rigors and challenges of daily life. Today, Valois Tennis Club is a reference to both its glorious past, and to its simple modernity. Its clubhouse is clean and contemporary, but it also houses washrooms, locker room space, and a shower room. Ten parking spots at the club make it easily accessible, while more spots are available on Summerhill, King, and Queen.
Although a semi-private tennis club, Valois has always kept its promise to the community it serves by making its membership rates the least expensive in the city. Citizens of the Pointe-Claire community can play for 10 dollars a day if they choose not to become members. Valois has also been fortunate to have some of the best players in the province from its inception to the present. These five, proud, hallowed courts have graced some of the very best tennis players in Quebec and Canada since we co-hosted the Tennis Canada National Outdoor Senior Championships. As well as league play or during the second most important annual Veterans Provincial Tournament.
Valois Tennis also offers a competent and committed team of club professionals who give lessons to youth and adults at a very affordable rate. The club has also made a persistent effort to build a strong, competitive junior program over the years.
Even if you have had a long journey of trials and tribulations, Valois Tennis Club offers you a welcoming home where courts are always available, where friends are a court away, and where a tranquility of spirit renews the soul. Come out and be part of the best-kept secret, it’s an experience of a lifetime.
